NHL: San Jose 5, Carolina 1

RALEIGH, N.C., Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Patrick Marleau scored a goal and added an assist Sunday, helping the San Jose Sharks whip Carolina 5-1, the Hurricanes' ninth consecutive loss.

Kent Huskins, Brad Staubitz, Douglas Murray and Marc-Edouard Vlasic each added a goal for San Jose, which has won five straight and seven of eight.

Brandon Sutter scored for Carolina.

Both goaltenders, the Sharks' Evgeni Nabokov and Carolina's Cam Ward, had 25 saves.
