TAMPA, Fla., Oct. 31 (UPI) -- David Clarkson scored the only goal of a shootout as the New Jersey Devils edged Tampa Bay 2-1 in an NHL encounter at St. Pete Times Forum Saturday.

After Vincent Lecavalier opened the fourth round with an unsuccessful backhander, Clarkson closed out the contest by sliding a backhand past Lightning goaltender Antero Niittymaki.

Travis Zajac got the lone regulation goal for the Devils, who finished October with five of six wins and improved to 7

0 on the road this season.

Steven Stamkos picked up the lone score for the Lightning, who dropped four of six.
