MADISON, Miss., Oct. 30 (UPI) -- The PGA's Viking Classic in Mississippi was rained out for a second day Friday, the first time since 2005 the first two rounds of a tournament were washed away.
Thursday's scheduled opening round was rained out and additional rain fell overnight, leaving the Annandale Golf Club unplayable. Up to 2 inches of rain was forecast Friday and organizers were unsure whether the course could be ready by Saturday.
"If we get something measurable, if we get an inch of rain, I think it will be a long shot to play," PGA Tour Vice President Slugger White told The Clarion-Ledger newspaper in Jackson, Miss.
The tournament could be trimmed from 72 to 54 holes, with a final round played Monday. That is what the PGA did in 2005 when storms led to the cancellation of play on the first two days of the BellSouth Classic, the last time the tour lost Thursday and Friday's play to weather issues.
