LOS ANGELES, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Mikael Samuelsson scored the only Vancouver goal in regulation Thursday and then added one in the shootout to give the Canucks a 2-1 win over Los Angeles.

Both sides had a goal through the first two shootout rounds, after which backup goaltender Andrew Raycroft stopped Ryan Smyth. Given the chance to win the game, Samuelsson came through against Jonathan Quick.

Raycroft was filling in for Roberto Luongo, who is out of action with a hairline rib fracture suffered last Saturday.

Scott Parse put the Kings in front with 8:33 to go in the second period with his first goal of the season. Samuelsson's sixth goal tied it with 1:24 to go in the second.

Both teams had lost their previous game.
