Tsonga, Simon lead Lyon Grand Prix winners

LYON, France, Oct. 29 (UPI) -- Frenchmen Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Gilles Simon easily won second-round matches Thursday at the Lyon Tennis Grand Prix in France.

Tsonga, the top seed, trounced Belgium's Olivier Rochus 6-3, 6-2. Simon was a 6-1, 6-2 victor against fellow Frenchman David Guez.

Tsonga, No. 8 in the latest men's world rankings, hit 13 service aces and lost only 12 service points. He also saved the two break points he faced and converted 3-of-4 break points.

Simon needed just 52 minutes to beat Guez, saving six break points and winning four of five break-point chances.

Other Lyon winners Thursday were third-seeded Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia, and Frenchmen Arnaud Clement, Michael Llodra and Marc Gicquel.

Friday's quarterfinals are Tsonga-Clement, Simon-Julien Benneteau, Ljubicic-Florent Serra and Gicquel-Llodra.
