EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Oct. 29 (UPI) -- New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez has donated 500 hot dogs, 500 hamburgers and 1,000 buns to a New Jersey soup kitchen, New York Newsday reported.

The Morristown, N.J., soup kitchen has helped the town's poor and homeless for 25 years.

Sanchez, a rookie from USC, was caught on camera eating a hot dog during Sunday's 38-0 rout of the Raiders at Oakland and drew the ire of Coach Rex Ryan.

Ryan said he believed it was a sign of disrespect to the Raiders, and to the NFL.

Sanchez is joined in the donation by his brother, Nick.

"People have gotten some laughs but I definitely need to learn from it," Sanchez told the newspaper. "It was a mistake (and) it won't happen again. It's something I wanted to turn into a positive."
