EDMONTON, Alberta, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Craig Anderson made 25 saves in producing his second shutout of the season Tuesday, carrying the Colorado Avalanche to a 3-0 victory over Edmonton.
The surprising Avalanche ran their winning streak to three games and have captured nine of their first 12 contests this season. Colorado, which finished last in the Western Conference a year ago, has the conference's best record.
Milan Hejduk put a wrist shot past Nikolai Khabibulin just 25 seconds into the game and the score remained 1-0 until midway through the third period. Wojtek Wolski finally gave Colorado an insurance goal and he added an empty-netter with 1:47 to play.
Khabibulin stopped 31 shots in the third straight loss for the Oilers.
This was the first game of a four-game road trip for Colorado, which has captured all four of its home contests this season.
The shutout was Anderson's ninth in a seven-year career, much of it spent as a backup goaltender.
