MEMPHIS, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Richard Hamilton and Ben Gordon helped Detroit steadily pull in front Wednesday and boosted the Pistons to a 96-74 decision over Memphis.
The Pistons gave John Kuester a win in his Detroit coaching debut. After failing to make the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in seven years, the Pistons went through a coaching and roster shakeup.
Hamilton scored 25 points and newcomer Ben Gordon added 22. Tayshaun Prince produced 14 points.
Detroit took a 13-point halftime lead and slowly increased the advantage throughout the final two quarters while shooting 51.4 percent from the floor.
Marc Gasol led Memphis with 21 points and 15 rebounds. The Grizzlies finished in the basement of the Southwest Division last year and return just six players from the 2008-09 roster.
