Top seeds advance in Vienna

VIENNA, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Marin Cilic and Radek Stepanek, seeded Nos. 1 and 2, posted quick first-round victories Tuesday at the Bank Austria Tennis Trophy.

Cilic was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over qualifier Alejandro Falla to set up a second-round match with Daniel Brands. Stepanek downed Lukasz Kubot 6-4, 6-1 and will next meet Frederico Gil.

No. 4 seed Philipp Kohlschreiber also advanced with a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Dieter Kindlmann and sixth-seeded Feliciano Lopez ousted Andreas Haider-Maurer 6-4, 6-4.

Lopez won his one and only tour title in this event five years ago.

In the most entertaining match of the day, No. 7 seed Jurgen Melzer went to two tiebreakers before downing Marco Chiudinelli 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (12-10).
