Report: ESPN suspends Griese for a week

MADISON, Fla., Oct. 27 (UPI) -- ESPN suspended former NFL star and current college football analyst Bob Griese for a week due to a remark he made Saturday, The Miami Herald reported.

During a telecast of last weekend's Minnesota-Ohio State game, ESPN promoted coverage of the NASCAR championship chase and showed photos of the leading drivers in the race for the Sprint Cup title.

The picture of championship contender Juan Pablo Montoya was not shown, prompting fellow analyst Chris Spielman to ask why the driver from Columbia had not been mentioned.

Griese replied Montoya was, "out having a taco." Griese twice apologized for the remark later in the telecast.

ESPN's Mike Humes said Griese had been removed from his assignment next weekend, but would return the following week.

Griese is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He threw for 25,092 yards and 192 touchdowns with the Miami Dolphins in a 14-year career.
