NEW YORK, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Dallas forward Steve Ott was suspended for two games by the NHL for a brawl-instigating hit on an opposing player.
Ott made a low hit on St. Louis defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo during Saturday's game that sent the Blues player flying into the air. Colaiacovo landed on his back on the ice.
No penalty was called on the play but a large fight started immediately, leading to a total of six penalties being assessed. Colaiacovo later left the game with an upper body injury and complained to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch about what he called a "dirty hit."
The league action Tuesday means Ott will miss the Stars' games Wednesday and Friday but could return Saturday when Dallas plays in Nashville. The suspension will cost Ott nearly $35,000 in salary because he had been suspended for one game for an incident last February.
