Thrashers' Kovalchuk out for four weeks

ATLANTA, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Atlanta forward Ilya Kovalchuk, who broke a bone in his right foot during a weekend game, will be sidelined for four weeks, the Thrashers announced Monday.

Kovalchuk was struck in the foot by a puck Saturday during the first period of a 4-3 Atlanta loss to San Jose.

The 26-year-old player from Russia is expected to miss 12 to 14 games.

Kovalchuk has averaged 41 goals a season the past five years in the NHL. He has nine goals so far this season.
