CARSON, Calif., Oct. 25 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Galaxy clinched the MLS Western Conference title Saturday with a 2-0 win over San Jose.
Landon Donovan scored his 12th goal of the season for Los Angeles, which edged Houston and Chivas USA for the conference crown in front of a sell-out crowd at The Home Depot Center.
The Galaxy took a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute of the first half on an own goal by San Jose's Bobby Burling. He stuck his foot out to block a Donovan crossing pass and deflected it into the corner of the Earthquakes' net.
Donovan scored on his own in the 77th minute by knocking a pass from Chris Klein between the legs of oncoming Quakes keeper Joe Cannon.
Cannon finished the evening with two saves. The Galaxy's Donovan Ricketts had three.
