CARSON, Calif., Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Abe Thompson gave Houston a three-goal lead in the 52nd minute Sunday and the Dynamo held on for a season-closing 3-2 win over Chivas USA.

The victory pushed Houston into a tie with Los Angeles atop the Western Conference with 48 points, but Los Angeles owns the tiebreak and will be the No. 1 seed in the West bracket during the MLS playoffs.

Houston (13-8-9) will be the second seed, followed by Seattle.

Andrew Hainault scored in the 26th minute and Dominic Oduro added a goal three minutes later, with Brad Davis assisting on both goals.

The goal by Thompson, his first of the season, came off a pass from Geoff Cameron.

Chivas USA, which will also be in the playoffs, got late goals from Michael Lahoud and Eduardo Lillingston on a penalty kick.
