MONTREAL, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Mike Cammalleri scored a hat trick Saturday, including the winning goal in Montreal's 5-4 overtime win over the New York Rangers.
Cammalleri secured his third career three-goal game at 2:42 of the overtime with an end-to-end breakaway that culminated with a nifty wrist shot that sailed past the glove of New York goalie Henrik Lundqvist.
The win was the third in a row for the Canadiens, who had lost their previous five.
"It was a test for us because the Rangers are a good hockey team," Cammalleri said. "We were down a couple of goals so it was a special night for a big win."
New York led 3-1 after one period, but Montreal came back to outscore the Rangers 3-1 in the second period. The game went into overtime after a scoreless third period.
Matt D'Agostini and Marc-Andre Bergeron scored the other Montreal goals. Jaroslav Halak made 23 saves.
Marian Gaborik had a goal and an assist for the Rangers. The other New York goals came from Ales Kotalik, Artem Anisimov and Matt Gilroy. Lundqvist faced 31 shots.
