MOSCOW, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Defending champion Jelena Jankovic dropped a quarterfinal match Friday in straight sets at the $1 million Kremlin Cup tournament in Moscow.

Jankovic's second-round victory Thursday locked up the final quarterfinals slot at the WTA's season-ending Sony Ericsson Championships in Qatar but she went out quickly Friday, falling 6-4, 6-3 to unseeded Alisa Kleybanova.

Kleybanova broke Jankovic's serve four times and lost only three points on serve in the second set.

Jankovic's exit leaves No. 8 Francesca Schiavone as the only seeded player left in the tournament. Schiavone took out Maria Kirilenko 6-3, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. She drew Alona Bondarenko for Saturday's semifinals. Bondarenko advanced with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Tsvetana Pironkova.

Olga Govortsova blitzed Vera Dushevina 6-3, 6-0 in 58 minutes in taking the semifinals spot against Kleybanova.

Saturday's winners are to play Sunday with the Kremlin Cup title and a first-place check of $157,427 on the line.
