Minnesota's Love out 6-8 weeks

MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Minnesota forward Kevin Love underwent surgery Thursday to repair a broken hand, the Timberwolves said.

Love fractured the fourth metacarpal on his left hand last Friday during Minnesota's exhibition game against Chicago. He hit his hand against the elbow of teammate Oleksiy Pecherov while trying for a rebound.

The Timberwolves said Thursday's surgery was a success and Love would miss 6-8 weeks for rehabilitation. Doctors inserted three screws in Love's hand during the operation.

Love, a 6-foot-10, second-year player out of UCLA, averaged 11.1 points and 9.1 rebounds over 81 games last season. His 734 rebounds marked a rookie record for the Timberwolves franchise.
