CHICAGO, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- The Chicago Bears gave quarterback Jay Cutler to a two-year contract extension that will keep him in the Windy City through the 2013 season, the team announced.

Cutler arrived in Chicago in the spring in a trade with the Denver Broncos. He has led the Bears to a 3-2 start.

The Vanderbilt product has thrown for 1,201 yards and 10 touchdowns this season. He has been intercepted seven times and has a passer rating of 86.9.

Cutler spent three seasons in Denver and made the Pro Bowl last season, but he was sent to Chicago after run-ins with Broncos Coach Josh McDaniels.
