CALGARY, Alberta, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Dion Phaneuf put Calgary in front late in the third period Tuesday and the Flames, despite blowing a two-goal lead, stormed to a 6-3 victory over Columbus.
The Blue Jackets had won five of their first six games this season and were giving up an average of two goals a contest coming into the meeting with the Flames.
Calgary, however, roughed up Steve Mason for six goals on 22 shots.
Daymond Langkow and Curtis Glencross scored for Calgary in the game's first four minutes. Columbus rallied into a 3-3 tie, however, when Derick Brassard and Jakub Voracek produced goals in the opening 100 seconds of the second period.
Phaneuf's goal came with 6:16 to go in the second and Miikka Kiprusoff protected the lead, making 27 saves to get the win.
