Hantuchova, Wickmayer win at Luxembourg

LUXEMBOURG, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Fourth-seeded Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova and Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium were first-round winners Wednesday at the Luxembourg Open.

Hantuchova easily eliminated Tatjana Malek of Germany 6-1, 6-0. Wickmayer, a winner at Linz last weekend and seeded fifth at Luxembourg, dropped Alexandra Dulgheru of Romania 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).

In a first-round upset, third-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues fell to Belgian qualifier Kirsten Flipkens 7-5, 6-3.

Sixth-seeded Sabine Lisicki of Germany defeated Slovenian wild card Polona Hercog 7-6 (7-1), 6-4.

Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland joined Lisicki in reaching the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Roberta Vinci of Italy, and Czech Lucie Hradecka advanced to the second round with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 win over Colombian qualifier Catalina Castano.
