NHL: Edmonton 2, Vancouver 1

EDMONTON, Alberta, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Sam Gagner scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period Monday and Nikolai Khabibulin made 39 saves to give Edmonton a 2-1 win over Vancouver.

Khabibulin faced the most shots he has seen this season in helping the Oilers win their second straight.

Gagner scored his third goal of the season off a feed from Jean-Francois Jacques with 9:26 remaining in the game.

Patrick O'Sullivan lifted Edmonton into a 1-1 tie just 26 seconds into the second period. Vancouver's only goal came from Steve Bernier in the opening stanza.

Roberto Luongo suffered the loss, stopping 28-of-30 shots.
