PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- The Phillies relied on red-hot bats and eight shutout innings of pitching from starter Cliff Lee Sunday to trounce the Dodgers 11-0 in the NLCS.
Lee struck out 10 batters without a walk and allowed only one Dodgers player to reach second base as the Phillies took a 2-1 lead in the series.
The left-handed Lee, acquired from Cleveland in July, continued his playoff roll: In three postseason starts, he's given up just two earned runs in 24 1/3 innings for an ERA of 0.74, while striking out 20 and walking only three.
The Phillies began their slugfest early, with six runs in the first two innings to knock out Los Angeles starter Hiroki Kuroda.
In the first inning, Ryan Howard ripped a triple to right, scoring Shane Victorino and Chase Utley. Howard became the first major-leaguer ever to knock in at least one run in seven straight playoff games in the same year. Jayson Werth then blasted a two-run homer to center.
Jimmy Rollins' double to right knocked in Carlos Ruiz in the second, and Howard's groundout to first scored Rollins.
Pedro Feliz tripled to right in the fifth inning to score Raul Ibanez, and Ruiz, who's batting .429 in the postseason, singled to right, scoring Feliz.
Victorino capped the scoring with his three-run homer to right in the eighth inning.
Manny Ramirez had two of the three hits in the Dodgers' lackluster performance at Citizens Bank Park.
Lee seemed to be going strong and batted in the bottom of the eighth, when he singled, then scored on Victorino's homer.
But Phillies manager Charlie Manuel pulled Lee after 114 pitches, and Chad Durbin pitched a 1-2-3 ninth in relief to end the game.
The defending World Series champion Phillies play at home again Monday night in Game 4 of the series.
