Bryzgalov takes week's top NHL honor

NEW YORK, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Phoenix goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov, who won three games and had a shutout last week, was selected No. 1 of the NHL's three stars of the week.

Colorado goalie Craig Anderson and Washington left wing Alex Ovechkin were also honored by the league Monday for games played Oct. 12-18.

Bryzgalov stopped 70 of the 73 shots he faced and was 3


0. He opened the week with a 22-save shutout of San Jose and was also on the ice for wins over St. Louis and Boston. He leads the NHL in goals-against average (1.14), save percentage (.953) and shutouts (two) this season.

Anderson was instrumental in the Avalanche taking four road victories last week. He stopped 30 of 31 shots in a win over Toronto. Anderson, 6-1-1 on the year, has started every game in goal for Colorado this season.

Ovechkin led the NHL with six points on four goals and two assists. He had two goals in a win over San Jose and added two more in a 3-2 victory over Nashville. He leads the NHL in goals (nine) and points (16).
