VILAMOURA, Portugal, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Englishman Lee Westwood captured his 19th European Tour championship Sunday, firing a 6-under-par 66 for a two-shot victory in the Portugal Masters.
Westwood hit the shot of the tournament on the 17th hole, pitching from between trees and behind bushes and ending up close enough to the pin for a tap-in birdie. He then parred No. 18 and finished at 23-under 265.
Francesco Molinari (70) was second at 267.
Westwood's win was his first on the tour since the 2007 British Masters.
"I feel great," Westwood said.
"All I could see was trees and water and a really tight lie," he said, describing the shot on No. 17. "That's down to all of the hard work I've been doing at home on the chipping green."
Padraig Harrington (67) finished third at 269. Marcel Siem (67) and Peter Hanson (68) shared fourth at 270.
