EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Oct. 18 (UPI) -- New Jersey's Martin Brodeur recorded his 102nd career shutout Saturday by blanking Carolina 2-0.

Brodeur made 26 saves and moved to within one whitewash of the great Terry Sawchuck's NHL career record.

Jamie Langenbrunner scored one of the Devils' goals 26 seconds into the third period and Zach Parise added an empty-netter with time expiring to help lead New Jersey to its first home win of the season.

New Jersey outshot Carolina 29-26.

Cam Ward was also solid in goal. He made 27 saves, but his stalwart performance wasn't enough to save the Hurricanes from their third consecutive defeat.
