TORONTO, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Jim Brennan's unassisted goal in the 47th minute Saturday led Toronto FC to a 1-0 Major League Soccer win over Real Salt Lake.
Brennan's second goal this season helped the Reds (10-10-9) keep their slim post-season hopes alive. The Reds had given up a league-worst 15 goals after the 75th minute, but earned three points in the Eastern Conference standings with their third 1-0 win in 2009.
They need a victory at New York in the regular-season finale next week to have a chance to secure their first-ever post-season appearance.
Toronto FC defender Jamison Olave suffered a lower-leg injury during the victory.
RSL (10-12-7), which failed to score despite taking 14 shots, had given up a league-high 17 goals in the final 15 minutes and will need help from other outcomes to advance to the playoffs.
