Report: Tony Pike to see an orthopedist

CINCINNATI, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- The status of University of Cincinnati quarterback Tony Pike will be decided by an orthopedist on Monday, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.

Pike, a 6-foot-6, 210-pound senior from Cincinnati, suffered a sprained left wrist Thursday after throwing two touchdown passes in the ninth-ranked Bearcats' 34-17 Big East victory at South Florida.

The injury occurred late in the first half, causing him to miss most of the final 30 minutes.

Pike fell backward on the wrist when hit by USF defensive tackle Aaron Harris.

"He got hit from the back side and landed right on it," Coach Brian Kelly told the newspaper after Thursday's contest.

Pike broke his left forearm last season and has a plate and six screws in the affected area.

The newspaper said the plate apparently shifted when he hit the ground.
