NEWARK, N.J., Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Evander Kane put Atlanta ahead early in a three-goal third period Friday and the Thrashers made the most of their chances to defeat New Jersey 4-2.

Atlanta put only 18 shots on goal, but four of them got past Martin Brodeur to end New Jersey's three-game winning streak.

Two of New Jersey's three straight wins had been shootout victories.

It was a 1-1 tie going into the final period, but Kane put Atlanta in front for good with a wrist shot 1:26 into the stanza. Rich Peverley made it a two-goal game with his second goal of the game and fourth of the year less than five minutes later.

Zach Parise brought the Devils within one with 6:50 to play, but Chris Thorburn wrapped things up by scoring shorthanded with 3:11 remaining. It was his first goal of the season.

Ondrej Pavelec made 28 saves to get the win. Atlanta has won three of its four games this year.
