Wizards lose Antawn Jamison for pre-season

WASHINGTON, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Star Washington Wizards forward Antawn Jamison will miss the balance of the NBA's pre-season with a partially dislocated right shoulder.

Team President Ernie Grunfeld said on the team's Web site late Thursday that the 6-foot-9, 11-year veteran will be re-evaluated next week after the inflammation subsides. Jamison will miss exhibition games at Atlanta Oct. 19, at Philadelphia Oct. 20 and at Chicago Oct. 23, Grunfeld said.

Jamison was hurt in the first quarter of Wednesday night's 109-104 win in Cleveland while contesting a lay-up attempt by 7-foot-3, 260-pound Cleveland center Zydrunas Ilgauskas.

The Washington Post reported that an angry Jamison left the building with his arm in a sling, but was optimistic about his future playing status.

"I'm always a quick healer," he told the newspaper.

Last season, the former North Carolina all-American and first-round draft pick led Washington with a 22.2-point scoring average.
