Top two seeds advance at Linz tennis event

LINZ, Austria, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Italy's Flavia Pennetta and Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska, the top two seeds, won their second-round matches Thursday at the Generali Ladies tennis event.

Pennetta, the top seed, started the day at the Intersport Arena in Linz, Austria, with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 victory against Germany's Anna-Lena Groenefeld.

The second-seeded Radwanska topped France's Alize Cornet 6-4, 7-5.

Elsewhere, No. 3 Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium rallied to beat Romania's Alexandra Dulgheru 2-6, 6-3, 6-1; seventh-seeded Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic downed Ursula Radwanska 6-4, 6-4; and in a match between non-seeds, Romania's Raluca Olaru was a 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 winner over German Julia Goerges.

Friday's quarterfinals will be Pennetta-Ioana Raluca; Agnieszka Radwanska-Safarova; Wickmayer-Sara Errani; and Carla Suarez Navarro-Petra Kvitova.

The eventual champion on Sunday will earn a $37,000 champion's check.
