ASHBURN, Va., Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Several players want management to give beleaguered Redskins Coach Jim Zorn a public vote of confidence, The Washington Post reported Thursday.
No players were identified, but questions received several "no comment" answers. "I wish someone upstairs would just say he's going to be our coach for the season," one unnamed player told the newspaper.
Washington is off to a 2-3 start, with all three defeats coming on the road, including at Detroit and Carolina, which were both winless at the time. They opened with a loss at the New York Giants (5-0).
The losses have led to mounting criticism of the team and speculation about Zorn's future.
Executive Vice President Vinny Cerrato recently declined to endorse Zorn, and a second team official refused to comment on the Post report.
Zorn has a 10-11 record in less than two seasons working for Redskins owner Daniel Snyder.
