Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
OAKLAND, Calif., Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Coach Tom Cable says Oakland will stick with starting quarterback JaMarcus Russell despite the Raiders' meager offense.
Russell is just 51-of-121 for 606 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions.
The Raiders, off 1-4 start after six straight losing seasons, were trounced 44-7 by the New York Giants last Sunday, and are facing stinging criticism from fans and opposing players.
"It felt like a scrimmage," Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce told Sirius NFL Radio this week.
"I expected more out of us and we just (haven't) delivered," Cable said.
The Oakland Tribune reported Thursday fans are on the Internet and on telephones proposing boycotts of the Raiders and the NBA's Golden State Warriors, who have had losing records 13 of the past 15 seasons.
"The offense has to do a better job," center Chris Morris admitted to the Tribune this week.
The Raiders have averaged 10.8 first downs in their first five games -- last in the NFL -- averaged 25:17 in time of possession, and with a total offense average of 191.6 yards per game, are last in total offense.
