MONTREAL, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Ryan O'Reilly broke a tie by scoring his first NHL goal with 6:13 remaining in the third period Thursday, giving Colorado a 3-2 win over Montreal.

The result spoiled the 100th home opener for the Canadiens, who went the first two weeks of the season without playing on their own ice. They have lost four straight games.

Kyle Cumiskey also produced the first goal of his NHL career with a wrist shot that gave the Avalanche a 2-1 lead with just 28 seconds left in the second period.

Tomas Plekanec brought Montreal into a 2-2 tie 8:26 into the third before O'Reilley scored his game-winner.

O'Reilly's first shot was stopped by Carey Price, but the rookie center grabbed his own rebound and put it in.

Craig Anderson stopped 29-of-31 shots for the victory. Colorado has won three in a row.
