OSAKA, Japan, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Marion Bartoli used a straight-set rout Wednesday to earn a quarterfinals berth at the $220,000 HP Japan Women's Open tennis tournament.

Another quarterfinal pairing was set as fourth-seeded Francesca Schiavone and No. 7-seeded Melinda Czink advanced out of the second round and will meet Friday.

Schiavone overcame a poor second set, in which she won only 10 points, in a 6-3, 0-6, 6-3 victory over Yung-Jan Chan while Czink posted a solid 6-4, 6-2 win over Vania King.

The other two quarterfinal matches will be determined Thursday. The four second-round matches ahead include top-seeded and defending champion Caroline Wozniacki going against Katie O'Brien.
