NHL: Buffalo 6,Detroit 2

BUFFALO, N.Y., Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Thomas Vanek scored two of four second-period Buffalo goals Tuesday to lead the Sabres to a 6-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings.

Drew Stafford, Clarke MacArthur, Patrick Kaleta and Paul Gaustad also scored and Derek Roy had three assists for the Sabres, who have won three straight games.

Buffalo goalie Ryan Miller made 23 saves.

Valtteri Filppula and Tomas Holmstrom scored for Detroit.

Red Wings goaltender Chris Osgood was replaced midway through the second period after he gave up five goals on 22 shots. Jimmy Howard blocked 14 shots in relief.
