U.S. team headed to 6th straight World Cup

SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- The United States men's soccer team will play in its sixth consecutive World Cup in 2010.

The U.S. team clinched a berth for the competition in South Africa by defeating Honduras 3-2 in the qualifying round Saturday.

Conor Casey scored two goals, and Landon Donovan had a goal and assist for the U.S. team.

Julio Leon scored twice for Honduras.

The American team has a 6-1-2 record and holds first-place in its qualifying group with one more match to play. Second-place Mexico has also assured itself of a berth in the World Cup.

The World Cup will begin June 11.
