Three time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson awaits race start at Loudon, New Hampshire

FONTANA, Calif., Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Jimmie Johnson took the lead with six laps to go Sunday and held off Jeff Gordon to win the Pepsi 500 in Fontana, Calif.

The win gave Johnson a 12-point lead over Mark Martin in the Sprint Cup points race.

Johnson outraced Gordon in the final laps after a pile-up involving several cars delayed the race for 22 minutes while the track was cleaned.

Juan Pablo Montoya finished third, Martin fourth and Tony Stewart fifth.
