ST. LOUIS, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Jonathan Quick made 34 saves in what was easily his best start of the season Saturday, lifting Los Angeles to a 2-1 victory over St. Louis.

It was Quick's fourth start of the year and he had allowed at least three goals in each of the previous three.

He lost his bid for a shutout when Alexander Steen scored shorthanded with 6:37 remaining in the game.

The Kings won their third in a row, getting goals from Ryan Smyth in the first period and Michael Handzus in the second. Smyth has four goals this season.

Carl Mason stopped 24-of-26 shots in the loss. Since defeating Detroit twice in a season-opening series played in Stockholm, the Blues have lost two straight.
