DETROIT, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Tomas Holmstrom scored on the power play with 6:53 remaining Saturday, giving Detroit a 3-2 decision over Washington.

The Red Wings have won two in a row since dropping their first two contests of the year in Stockholm against St. Louis.

Holmstrom took a feed from Pavel Datsyuk and fired a wrist shot past Jose Theodore, who allowed three goals on 37 shots.

Detroit overcame an early 1-0 deficit on goals by Ville Leino in the first period and Jason Williams in the second.

Brendan Morrison scored his third goal of the season 1:25 into the third period to tie it.

Chris Osgood had to make 22 saves to get the victory.

Washington's Alex Ovechkin took 10 shots, but failed to score. He did produce an assist, his 10th point of the season.
