CALGARY, Alberta, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Alex Auld made 21 saves in his initial start for Dallas Friday and the Stars won their first game of the season with a 5-2 decision over Calgary.

It was Calgary's first loss of the season after opening the season with four wins, leaving Atlanta (2-0) as the only unbeaten team in the NHL.

Dallas lost in a shootout in both of its previous outings this year.

Auld spent his first four full seasons in the NHL with four different teams and was obtained by Dallas this summer in a trade with Ottawa. The two goals Auld allowed came on the power play.

The Stars never trailed, but found themselves leading by only one when Rene Bourque scored 5:17 into the third period.

Dallas regained a two-goal lead on a tip-in by Loui Erikkson with 10:35 to play and Brad Richards added an empty-net goal with 47 seconds remaining.

Curtis McElhinney made his first start of the season for Calgary and gave up four goals on 29 shots.
