MLS: Columbus 1, New England 0

FOXBOROUGH, Mass., Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Defender Gino Padula's long shot late in the first half allowed the Columbus Crew to post a 1-0 victory Saturday over the New England Revolution.

New England's second loss in its last three games is hurting its chances at earning a playoff spot. The Revolution is still third in the East thanks to Toronto's loss earlier in the day.

Padula scored the game's lone goal when he fired a shot that bounced through the defense and over goalkeeper Matt Reis. It was Padula's first goal of the season and improved MLS East-leading Columbus's record to 13-5-10.
