ANAHEIM, Calif., Oct. 10 (UPI) -- An RBI single by Maicer Izturis in the seventh put Los Angeles in front Friday and the Angels took control of their playoff series with a 4-1 win over Boston.
The Angels got to John Beckett for three runs in the seventh to break a 1-1 tie and grab a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-five American League Division Series.
Los Angeles will try to win the series Sunday when the action moves to Boston.
Beckett brought a 7-2 career post-season record into the game and limited the Angels to a run on four hits through six innings in a duel with Los Angeles starter Jered Weaver.
Vladimir Guerrero drew a walk off Becket to start the big Los Angeles seventh and Howie Kendrick came on to run for Guerrero.
Kendrick stole second and was still there with two out when Izturis hit a sharp grounder up the middle that drove in the go-ahead run.
Mike Napoli was hit by a pitch and Erick Aybar delivered two runs with a triple over the head of center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury.
Weaver retired the first nine Boston batters and allowed a run on two hits through 7 1/3 innings to get the win.
After Kevin Jepsen gave up a one-out double in the ninth, Brian Fuentes came on to earn the save. Fuentes allowed a two-out walk, bringing Mike Lowell to the plate as the potential tying run. Lowell, however, flew out to center to end the game.
