SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Dany Heatley scored two of San Jose's four second-period goals Thursday and finished with a hat trick, pacing the Sharks to a 6-3 victory over Columbus.
The loss by the Blue Jackets left Calgary (4-0) and Atlanta (2-0) as the NHL's only unbeaten teams just a week into the season.
Heatley gave San Jose a 2-1 lead 5:40 into the second period and also scored with 12 seconds left in the stanza to make it 4-2. He added a shorthanded goal 7:08 into the closing period.
Heatley has four goals in four games.
Evgeni Nabokov got the win, stopping 20-of-23 shots.
Steve Mason was removed from the contest after allowing five goals on 20 shots. Mathieu Garon faced six shots the rest of the way and gave up only Heatley's final goal.
