NEW YORK, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Mark Teixeira lined a home run to left leading off the 11th inning Friday, lifting the New York Yankees to a controversial 4-3 playoff win over Minnesota.

New York took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five American League Division Series and will attempt to complete a sweep in Minneapolis Sunday.

Teixeira's rocket-like shot that barely cleared the 318-foot mark just inside the foul pole ended a hard-luck night for the Twins, who let a two-run lead get away in the bottom of the ninth and lost a run in the 11th because of a missed call by umpire Phil Cuzzi.

Minnesota took a 3-1 lead in the ninth, but closer Joe Nathan allowed a lead-off single to Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez followed with a home run to right that tied the game.

It was the eighth career post-season homer for Rodriguez, who pumped his fist before leaving the batter's box as the ball sailed into the seats.

New York put runners on first and third with one out in the 10th, but the Twins stayed alive when Johnny Damon lined into an inning-ending double play.

Joe Mauer led off the 11th for the Twins by looping a fly ball down the left field line that bounced into the stands. Cuzzi immediately signaled the ball was foul, but replays showed it was fair by almost a foot.

Mauer eventually reached on a single and the Twins loaded the bases on singles by Jason Kubel and Michael Cuddyer. Mauer would have been on second base if Cuzzi had made the correct call and would have scored in the inning. But none of the next three batters could drive in a run and the game was still tied when Teixeira came through with his game-winning drive.
