OTTAWA, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Mike Fisher scored from the top of the left circle 32 seconds into overtime Thursday, boosting Ottawa to a 3-2 win over the New York Islanders.
The Senators let a two-goal lead slip away before coming up with Fisher's goal to win for the second time in three games. The Islanders have suffered overtime losses in both their contests this season.
Fisher emerged from a scramble behind the Ottawa net and carried the puck down the left side of the ice. He took it all the way to the circle before sending a wrist shot past Martin Biron.
Ottawa's Matt Carkner scored the first goal of his career and also had an assist. Pascal Leclaire stopped 23-of-25 shots to get the win.
Matt Moulson scored the last goal of regulation, a power play tally that lifted the Islanders into a tie 5:29 into the third period.
Ottawa played its home opener and will play its next three on its own ice.
