LOS ANGELES, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- Third-period goals by Teddy Purcell and Davis Drewiske Tuesday helped the Los Angeles Kings fight off San Jose 6-4.
The Kings had led 4-0 in the second period, but San Jose rallied with two goals in the second and two more early in the third that tied the score. Purcell scored the decisive goal on a wrister at 14:50 of the third and Drewiske added an insurance goal at 18:41.
Dany Heatley had tied the score at 14:24 on a slap shot through traffic that Kings goalie Jamie Quick likely never saw.
Los Angeles built a 4-0 advantage on a goal by Wayne Simmons at 5:49 of the first period and second-period scores by Ryan Smith, Jack Johnson and Anze Kopitar.
The Sharks battled back with two goals by Devin Setoguchi and another by Rob Blake before Heatley tied the contest with his first goal in a San Jose sweater. Heatley also had two assists and Joe Thornton had three.
Quick made 25 saves on 29 shots. Evgeni Nabokov made 16 saves on 20 shots before being replaced by Thomas Greiss, who faced nine shots and made eight saves.
