VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Steve Mason made 40 saves Monday and the Columbus Blue Jackets beat Vancouver 5-3.

Mason -- who won the Calder Trophy last season as the league's outstanding rookie and was a runner-up for the Vezina Trophy, awarded to the outstanding goalie -- has 72 saves on 76 shots in two games this season for Columbus, which has opened the season with two victories for the first time in franchise history.

Kristian Huselius, Antoine Vermette and Rostislav Klesla each had a goal and an assist and Rick Nash had three assists for the Blue Jackets.

Willie Mitchell had a goal and an assist and Christian Ehrhoff and Henrik Sedin each had a goal for the Canucks, who won the Northwest Division last season but have opened the 2009-2010 season with three straight losses.

Vancouver goalie Roberto Luongo allowed four goals on 12 shots before being pulled for Andrew Raycroft, who stopped 11 shots. Luongo has let in 10 goals in 61 shots in three games so far this season.
