NEW YORK, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Cincinnati Reds pitcher Homer Bailey was named Monday the National League Player of the Week for the final week of the regular season.

Bailey, a 23-year-old right-hander, had a 2-0 record with an ERA of 0.69 during the closing seven days. Over 13 innings, he had 14 strikeouts and four walks.

Bailey's strong finish showed the potential that made him the seventh overall pick in the 2004 draft. Bailey was 6-1 with a 1.70 ERA over his last nine appearances.
