NHL: Phoenix 6, Los Angeles 3

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Radim Vrbata scored two goals Saturday, leading the Phoenix Coyotes to a season-opening 6-3 win over the Los Angeles Kings.

He scored once in each of the first two periods, with the second giving Phoenix a 4-1 lead at 14:08 of the second.

Matthew Lombardi, Daniel Winnik, Scottie Upshall (unassisted), and Robert Lang (unassisted) also had one goal apiece, while Coyotes' goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov made 30 saves on 33 shots.

LA's Anze Kopitar (power play), Alexander Frolov (power play) and Drew Doughty (power play) all scored once.

Ryan Smyth had two assists, but Kings' goalie Jon Quick was beaten six times on 30 shots.

On the power play, Phoenix went 1-for-3 and Los Angeles was 3-for-4.
