ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Alex Rodriguez homered twice in a 10-run sixth inning for seven RBI Sunday, leading the Yankees in a 10-2 rout of Tampa Bay.

The veteran slugger belted a grand slam and a three-run homer, giving him 12 straight seasons with at least 30 homers and 100 RBI.

The seven RBI in one inning established an American League record.

He reached the plateau despite missing the season's first month while recovering from hip surgery.

One of two hits by Johnny Damon was a two-run double.

One run scored on an error by reliever Andy Sonnanstine.

Rodriguez had three hits, while Derek Jeter added two hits for AL East champion New York.

Its 103 victories were the most since the 2002 season.

The winner was starter A.J. Burnett (13-9).

Evan Longoria led Tampa Bay with three hits, including a solo homer.

The losing pitcher was starter Wade Davis (2-2).
